Our Story

Owned and Operated by the Salverda family since 1974, Beamsville Bakery first opened in 1958. For almost 50 years, the Salverda family has been providing the local community with baked goods, pastries, and (our famous!) donuts using traditional practices and techniques.

With a family history of baking that has journeyed from the Netherlands to Canada, we welcome you to experience this unique establishment – and abundance of flavour!

Klaas grew up baking with his father, Bauke, who owned a small bakery with his wife, Geertruida. Klaas was educated and trained with certifications in bread baking, pastry and cake making, decorating, and other specialties.

In 1972, Klaas and Johanna Salverda immigrated to Canada with the dream of owning and operating a bakery. Once in Canada, Klaas worked in bakeries in Grimsby and Welland, learning traditional English and Scottish baking from co-workers.

When Klaas and Johanna purchased Beamsville Bakery, Bauke also continued to bake with Klaas, bringing along his knowledge and experience. Suikerbrood was one of Pake Bauke’s specialties!

Benjamin grew up just like his father—baking. With strong connections to Dutch heritage and a passion for the traditional recipes, Benjamin attended George Brown College, completing several Diplomas in bread baking, pastry-making, and cake decorating. Benjamin brings a fresh approach to the products and embraces the timeless recipes passed down from his father and grandfather.
